The second commemorative 2 Euro of Malta in 2014 is the fourth of a series of commemorative coin 2 Euro coins presenting the history of the Constitution of the country.
The theme of the coin is 'Independence - 1964 ". On the reverse side of the coin is shown € 2 denomination, which is common to all coins issued in this series. On the other side is a national symbol of Malta, detail of Independence monument in Floriana. After the request of Malta's independence, Maltese Prime Minister Dr. George Borg Olivier on August 20, 1962 began discussions with the British Government about the future of Malta. After long and difficult negotiations, the independence was approved by the Parliament of the United Kingdom on July 23, 1964. Date for independence was established on September 21, 1964, when Malta officially became an independent sovereign state.
The author is a national artist Ganni Bonnici. Coins were minted at the Royal Dutch Mint in Holland with mintage 400,000 coins.
